Catering a Lake District Wedding

Just a couple of hours drive away from Manchester; burrowed between the magnificent mountains and towering trees, lies this incredibly lavish private lake house – Winterfell. It was August bank holiday weekend, the wedding day of Charlotte & Jeremy; and this was to be our catering location for the day. The sun was shining and the weekend was set to be one of the hottest of the Summer. This was certainly going to be a Grape and Grain event to remember.

The house was surrounded by six acres of mesmerising grounds, which sit perfectly on the edge of Lake Windermere. The ceremony was to take place amongst the trees and foliage of the gardens, followed by their wedding breakfast and reception under a hired tipi.

From the beginning, Charlotte & Jeremy knew they wanted an informal, family style menu, to match the setting and themes of the day. Working closely with our Catering & Events Coordinator, Lara; the couple built their ideal package and desired dishes.

The operations and kitchen teams began preparing weeks in advance, with equipment and food orders booked in early to ensure a smooth planning process. The team also conducted a site visit at the location prior to the big day, to ensure all logistics had been accounted for and that access was achievable and safe.

The big day finally arrived and the staff were geared up and ready to go. With the kitchen areas set, the Chefs in full swing and the front of house staff completing all finishing touches – the show was on the road.

Once our Bride & Groom had said their vows within the stunning surroundings of their romantic outdoor ceremony, the guests gathered for the drinks reception back at the house. The couple opted for delicious canapés to be circulated around their guests at this time, giving everyone a few nibbles to wet their appetite.

The couple chose; heritage baby tomato, mozzarella, basil and balsamic drizzle, ham hock with mustard mayo on sourdough croute and smashed avocado on toast with quail egg and tonic gel.

Once all the guests were seated for dinner, the Chefs and front of house staff began serving a feast for all to dive into. The starter consisted of a sharing board of homemade focaccia breads, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, hummus, olives and butter.

The main course boasted hefty bowls and crammed platters of mouth-watering foods; again, for guests to pass around and indulge in. The platters were full of BBQ harissa marinated beef kebabs, lemon & black pepper chicken, beetroot burgers and vegetable skewers. The bowls were full of salads and vegetables, including; red cabbage slaw with mango and toasted cumin seeds; charred sweet potato and spring onion salad with mint and lime yoghurt; burnt cauliflower and broccoli salad with pomegranate seeds and turmeric vinaigrette and a green bean & sugar snap pea salad with crumbled feta, toasted almonds, chilli and garlic oil.

With so many flavours and colours to compliment the meat and beetroot burgers; the food went down a storm!

We love serving banquets that require guests to share and pass around, as it’s a great opportunity to get talking to other people on your table; and a chance to make new friend!

The Bride & Groom had decided to build their own dessert table of cakes and treats from a local bakery, so once the mains were cleared – it was time to leave all the guests to enjoy their magical evening dancing away within the peaks and greenery of Windermere.

A message from Charlotte & Jeremy before they jetted off on their honeymoon…“It was beautiful. The staff were amazing and everyone loved the food. Thank you!”
